The best advice I can give to any goalie or goalie parent(s).

It probably doesn’t surprise you that I am asked, on the daily, what piece of information I can give to goalies.

I want to preference this section by stating that nothing I can say will make you a better goalie. It all comes down you.

However, I can offer recommendations and advice. With this information you can help make informed decisions.

So, let’s cut to the chase. What is the best advice I can give?

Find a goalie coach or coaches you trust, and work with them consistently, for the next 10 years.

That’s it.

I know it isn’t glamorous, or probably what you even wanted to hear, but it’s the truth.

Athletic excellence does not come from a one-off session, week-long goalie camp or 10-pack of training session.

It comes from thousands of hours of intentional practice. Spread out over years.

Camps, are fantastic. I love hosting them, I loved attending them as a kid, and they do offer a tremendous amount of value for goalies. I’ll talk more about that in a future newsletter.

But true growth will come from consistency.

Booking hour sessions each week or every other week for an entire season will do 10X more for development than 12 hours on the ice spread out over 5 days.

I attribute my personal exponential growth as a goalie to this factor.

Play the long game. It’s not about how good you are tomorrow, next week or even next month.

It’s about how good are you going to be in 10 years.
